History/Folklore: Its common name, Chickweed, comes from the fact it used to be used to feed birds and chicks. This is what helped it become so prolific in gardens, as birds would eat the seeds, spilling some, causing the plant to grow. In the Olde days, it was said that carrying it would attract love, while placing it in the garment of a loved one would ensure their fidelity.
