History/Folklore: This herb has long been used to start your cycle and aid in children’s cough, long before it was sold as a distraction for cats. The famous herbalist Culpeper wrote about this herb, and suggested its use as a tea, bath, inhalant of the steam for mother’s, as it would take away “barrenness”, and take away the “pain and winds” of the mother. In the Middle Ages it was used as a remedy for anger, as it helps to quiet and calm the Heart and Soul, and was said to calm even the angriest of men.
I was always taught to use it as a sedative herb, that would help break a fever and induce sweating when one had the flu. I commonly use it for this.
