History/Folklore: There has been Yarrow Pollen found fossilized in Iraq within Neanderthal burial sites over 60,000 years ago.

It gets its name from Achilles, who was believed to have washed his body in the a tincture of it to protect himself against arrows (though would miss the Achilles tendon, hence how he died). This is one of the many myths. But it is believed that the Centaur Chiron was the one to teach Achilles of its medicinal value and to take it into battlefield to heal wounds. The Goddess Aphrodite was also known to use this herb in magical practices to heal the wounds of broken hearts.

There is a legend that Yarrow grew around the grave of Confucius, and that is why the stalks of the Yarrow plant are used in the I Ching and in divination practices. It was also believed that where Yarrow grew on the mountains, the paths would be safe from Tigers, Wolves or poisonous plants.
