History/Folklore: Wormwood has long been used to treat intestinal parasites. This was one of the key ingredients in the infamous French (and French Quarter of USA) drink called Absinthe, which lead people to see the "Green Fairy" due to the hallucinogenic properties that can be found in wormwood.

During sporting events in Rome, the winners were given a wine made from wormwood to remind them that victories were bitter and sweet. It's genus name "Artemisia" comes from the Greek/Roman Goddess of the Woods and Hunt, Artemis/Diana.

In Mexico, women would wear garlands made of Wormwood and dance during the festical celebrating their Salt Goddess, Huixtocihuatl.

It is also part of an old love charm that would be done on St. Luke's Day. A little Wormoood, marigold flowers, thyme, and a spring of marjoram would be dried out before a fire then ground into a fine powder. It would then be mixed with honey and vinegar and anointed before going to bed. They would recite “St. Luke, St. Luke, be kind to me, in dreams let me my true love see” three times and you will then dream of the person who will become your true love.
