Harvested From: Bulgaria

History/Folklore: It is believed that the knowledge of this plant came to us from watching Deer. It was noticed that older Deers, and Deer that just gave birth would rip the outer bark from the tree and eat the inner lining. This lead us to believe that it was a pain reliever. Now, we know that it is a miracle herb given to us by Mother Nature, that does indeed help with pain. Though it is believed that Asprin (originally came from Willow Bark) acts quicker, the inner bark of the White Willow Tree lasts longer, and has special enzymes that protect the inner lining of the stomach, unlike Aspirin.

The Pomo Tribe of California was known to make a decoction of this inner bark to drink when cold invaded their bodies and they had alternating chills and fever.

It is one of the " 4 species" used ritually during the Jewish holiday Sukkot. In Buddhism it is one of the chief attributes to the Bodhisatvva Kuan Yin, of compassion.
