History/Folklore: The medicinial uses of this herb goes back to the Middle Ages and was used as a tonic. Along with medicine and food, it was actually used in the makeup industry to create reds and yellow dyes for silk.


In China it has also long been used for formulas for martial artists to strengthen their body, and heal after damage.


Key Actions:amenorrhea, analgesic, astringent, diaphoretic, dysmenorrhea, emmenagogue, stimulant for the circulation, heart, and uterus.

Key Constituents: alkaloids, flavonoids, lignanoids, organic acids and polyacetylenes, alkanediols, riboflavin, steroids, and quinochalcone C-glycosides


Known Uses: This herb is known to help with stimulating appetites, arthritis, boils/cysts/acne, bronchitis, chicken pox, digestive disorders, gout, heartburn, strengthens the Heart, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, jaundice, lactic acid build up, liver problems, menstruation, perspiration, phlegm, poison ivy, psoriasis, eczema, lowers stomach acid, Uric acid, urinary problems.
