History/Folklore: This herb has long been used in medicine, perfume, incense, and as part of the embalming ceremony in Egypt. This is still used in Catholic ceremonies, and was believed to be one of the three gifts given to Baby Jesus by the Magis. It is also known as the "Balm of Mecca".
