History/Folklore: Lavender derives from the Latin word lavare, which meant "to wash". This herb has long been used to purify and clean the body and soul.



There is an old Christian legend that believes the plant got its scent from the newely washed clothing of the infant Christ when it was hung over the plant to dry. It is associated with purity and has been associated with the Virgin Mary.



The German Commission E has approved Lavender for promoting circulation and improving one's mood.
