History/Folklore: The word "Hyssop" comes, almost, directly from the Greek word hyssopos, which meant "holy herb". It can be found referenced in the Christian Bible as an herb associated with purification. It can be found in Psalm 51:7 where it says "Purge me with hyssop, and I will be clean", referring to its purification actions. The early Egyptians were known to use it for religious purification as well.


It was also once hung in homes to protect against the evil eye, witches and curses. There was also once a time where people would plant it at graves to protect the souls of the dead, from the living.
