Latin Name: Trigonella foenum-graecum

History/Folklore: The first recordings of this herb have been found in both the Mediterranean and in China, around the same time. In Egypt this herb was highly used in making incense, embalming pracitce, as a form of coffee (roasted), and was even used to promote milk flow in both humans and livestock. This herb was once studied at the School of Salerno, the first "medical" school of the world, which was founded in Italy in the 9th C. With its high levels of lecethin, which assists the body in breaking down and dissolving cholesterol (bad) and fatty substances. Fenugreek also has a 40% mucilage component, which makes it amazing in a poultice, to draw out abscesses, boils, acne, inflammed skin disorders, and healing broken skin. This also makes it a great remedy for gastrointestinal problems involving inflammation.
In the past, Fenugreek was used in place of Cod-liver oil in treating scrofula, rickets, anemia and other debilitation after contracting an infectious disease.
