History/Folklore: Now, a staple food, and one of the most common things to find: corn, it originated Tehuacan Valley, Mexico and was domesticated here around 9'000 years ago. It was only introduced to the Northern parts of the USA during 2500 BC and to Europe not until the 15th and 16th C. The name “Zea” comes from the Greek word “to live” and “maize” comes from a native, ancient dialect from Mexico that means “mother” or “mother of life”. Our corn silk comes from Bulgaria.
