History/Folklore: Now, a common baking spice, this herb once was worth more than oil and gold. There are vessels from Syria dating back to 1721 B.C with Cloves in them. In China is was used in every breath freshener and room purifier during the Han dynasty, and had been a staple in trades amongst the Silk Road.
There is an island called Spice Island where the oldest recorded living Clove Tree still stands, at 350-400 years old.
Distilled Clove oil is still used in Dentistry today as a numbing agent for teeth and gums.
