History/Folklore: This herb was once known as “Monk’s Pepper” as they reputedly chewed on the berries to curve their sexual desires. This is where the name “Chaste” comes from as it was believed to keep one chaste, and even dry up semen in men.
In the Iliad it was referred to by Homer to keep away all evils.
It is one of the few herbs that have a progesterone-type activity within the body. It acts upon the pituitary gland to improve menstural regularity.
